What is in the pump group?

This category brings together pumps that draw liquid from the surface and discharge it under pressure. It covers a wide range — from small centrifugal pumps used in garden irrigation to chemical transfer pumps in industrial facilities, from pool pumps to irrigation pumps driven by a tractor power take-off. The right choice depends on the type of fluid, the required flow rate and pressure, the installation location, and the available power source.

Main pump types

Five questions to ask when selecting a pump

First, what fluid will be pumped? Clean water, hot water, chemicals, oil, or liquids containing solid particles each require different materials and impeller types. Second, how much flow rate is needed? Third, what is the total head, including the height the water must be raised and pipe losses? Fourth, will the pump be positioned below or above the liquid — i.e., will it need to self-prime? On surface pumps, the practical suction lift is generally limited to around 7 m. Finally, what power source is available: 220 V, 380 V, battery, or fuel?

Installation and maintenance

On self-priming pumps, the suction pipe should be short and straight, no narrower than the pump inlet, and fitted with a strainer and foot valve at the end. Never running the pump dry, priming the casing with water at first start-up, and draining the water during periods of frost risk will significantly extend the pump's service life. Seal leaks, increased noise, and vibration are the first signs that maintenance is needed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a centrifugal pump and a jet pump?

Centrifugal pumps operate more efficiently but require the suction line to be filled with water before they can prime. Jet pumps are self-priming; they can evacuate air and draw water on their own, although their efficiency is somewhat lower.

What determines the pump power rating?

Power is a result of the required flow rate and head. Determine these two values first, then select a pump that meets this duty point; an oversized pump wastes energy.

What pump is needed to draw water from a deep well?

If the water level is deeper than 7–8 m, a submersible pump or a deep-suction ejector jet pump should be used.

Can I get help with selection?

If you share the fluid type, required flow rate, and head via chat, we can identify suitable models together.
