What is a submersible pump?

A submersible pump is a pump that operates fully submerged in water, together with its motor and pump casing. Rather than drawing water by suction, it pushes water upward from the point where it is located, so it is not affected by the suction lift limitation of surface pumps. This makes it the first choice for drawing water from deep wells, storage tanks, and flooded areas. Operating the motor underwater helps cool it and greatly reduces operating noise.

Types of submersible pumps

How to choose the right submersible pump

The first two values to check are flow rate (volume of water pumped per unit time) and head (m). When calculating head, consider the dynamic water level in the well, the highest discharge point, friction losses in the pipework, and the required pressure at the point of use; roughly 10 meters of water column corresponds to 1 bar. For deep wells, the pump's outer diameter must fit the inner diameter of the well casing with enough clearance for water to pass around it. On the electrical side, determine whether single-phase (220 V) or three-phase (380 V) is appropriate for your installation; select cable cross-section according to motor power and cable length.

Installation and maintenance recommendations

Most submersible pumps are not designed to run dry. For this reason, using a protection and control panel together with a level electrode in deep wells, and a float switch in drainage pumps, protects the motor. Do not suspend the pump by its cable alone; use a steel rope and appropriate riser pipe. In wells that yield sandy water, choosing a pump manufactured from sand-resistant materials reduces wear. Periodically measuring the pump's current draw and discharge pressure allows you to detect a fault before it becomes serious.

Frequently asked questions

How many meters deep can a submersible pump lift water from?

This depends on the number of stages and the motor power. The technical data on the product pages show the head the pump can reach at each flow rate.

What does a submersible pump without a motor mean?

It is a model where only the hydraulic casing — i.e., the stages — is sold. It is used together with a compatible motor you already have or a submersible motor selected separately.

How do I know which pump fits my well?

Note down the well depth, water level, well casing diameter, and the amount of water you need. If you send us this information via our support team, we can identify the right models together.
