Water pumps for home and garden
This category brings together the surface pumps most commonly used in homes, gardens, vineyards, and small farms: self-priming jet pumps, single- and twin-impeller centrifugal pumps, and open-impeller models. They can be used to pump water from a tank to a house, to irrigate gardens and greenhouses, to transfer water between tanks, or to build a small booster set. Most models run on 220 V household electricity.
Which pump for which job?
- Jet pump: When the water source is below the pump and suction is required; for shallow wells or underground tanks.
- Single-impeller centrifugal: For irrigation and transfer applications requiring high flow.
- Twin-impeller centrifugal: For pumping water to more distant or elevated points.
- Open-impeller centrifugal: To reduce the risk of clogging in water containing small amounts of particles.
For detailed information, you can also browse the jet pumps and centrifugal pumps categories.
Finding the right model
The mSS (meters water column) value in product names indicates the maximum head the pump can deliver, while the m³/h or L/min value indicates the maximum flow rate. These two values must be read together: at its maximum head the pump delivers very little water, and it reaches maximum flow only when the head is very low. The operating point you need should fall in the mid-range of both values.
Installation and usage tips
Install the pump in a sheltered, ventilated location where water can be drained. Use a foot valve on the suction line, prime the casing with water at first start-up, and never run the pump dry. Draining the water from a pump not in use during winter prevents frost damage.
Frequently asked questions
Which pump is suitable for garden irrigation?
For irrigation with a hose or a few sprinkler heads, a medium-flow single-impeller centrifugal pump is usually sufficient. For more distant or elevated points, twin-impeller models give better results.
Do jet pumps and centrifugal pumps sound different?
Jet pumps generally run somewhat noisier due to the ejector. If noise is a concern, mount the pump on flexible connections and vibration isolators.
Can I build a booster set with a pump?
Yes; a pump can be converted into a booster set by adding a pressure switch, tank, and pressure gauge, or a pressure controller.
Is household electricity sufficient?
Most models in this category run on 220 V. Models requiring 380 V are indicated in the product name and description.
