These devices cannot be used on their own; they are fitted onto a water pump to enable automatic pump operation.

Pressure controllers are fitted to the pump outlet and enable the pump to operate automatically. They convert the pump into a booster pump without requiring an expansion vessel or pressure switch. Because they control the pump electronically, they protect it against dry running — when the pump cannot draw water, it is taken into protection mode. Pressure controllers have a built-in check valve, so no additional check valve is needed at the pump inlet or outlet. They operate quietly, require no maintenance, and because they include dry-run protection, they can be installed directly on the mains line, unlike conventional expansion vessels.

The start pressure on the pressure controller is adjustable. The start pressure can be set within the range of 1.5–3 bar.

When the pump runs dry, it is automatically protected; when water returns, it restarts automatically without the need for a reset.
