What Is a Booster Pump?

Booster pumps are automatic pumps used to pressurize water where mains pressure is insufficient. They can be used on their own or, in some plumbing systems, together with a water storage tank.

They pressurize mains water in houses, apartments, buildings, villas, housing complexes, and high-rise buildings, or pump water from a storage tank into the distribution network under pressure.

The pre-charge gas pressure of the expansion vessel must be checked every 6 months and any pressure loss must be topped up.

The advantage of the expansion vessel in a booster system is that when only a small amount of water is used, the booster pump does not activate; it first draws from the water stored in the tank, and the pump only starts when the tank is empty. The benefit is that the pump won't cycle on and off with every water use, resulting in a longer service life. In other words, the larger the expansion vessel in your booster system, the more water it stores, meaning the pump works less and lasts longer.

Important Notes When Using the Sumak SMJ 85 4-Floor 4-Apartment Booster Pump with WNP-10H Pressure Controller

If the booster pump will draw water from a storage tank, it is advisable to use a level float switch in case the tank runs dry. If the tank runs dry, it will stop the unit from operating and prevent motor damage. When the tank refills, the booster pump will automatically resume operation.

Pressure Controller Specifications

The automatic pressure controller automatically stops the pump if the water supply from the suction side runs out, preventing the pump from running dry. It automatically starts the pump when water use begins and stops it when water use ends. For use with pumps providing a minimum of 2.7 bar pressure and a maximum of 1.5 Hp single-phase.

HARDWARE

For easy and safe electrical installation, the unit is equipped with a socket and a 150 cm cable with plug.

A check valve is integrated into the unit. No additional check valve is required.

The pressure controller unit is equipped with a pressure gauge to allow the system pressure to be read and the pump operating settings to be adjusted.
