What Is a Booster Pump?

Booster pumps are automatic pumps used to pressurize water where mains pressure is insufficient. They can be used on their own or, in some plumbing systems, together with a water storage tank.

They pressurize mains water in houses, apartments, buildings, villas, housing complexes, and high-rise buildings, or pump water from a storage tank into the distribution network under pressure.

This means the pump will not stop and start with every water use, resulting in a longer service life. If the booster pump will draw water from a storage tank, it is advisable to use a level float switch in case the tank runs dry. If the tank runs dry, it will stop the unit from operating and prevent motor damage. When the tank refills, the booster pump will automatically resume operation.
