What Is a Booster Pump?

Booster pumps are automatic pumps used to pressurize water where mains pressure is insufficient. They can be used on their own or, in some plumbing systems, together with a water storage tank.

They pressurize mains water in houses, apartments, buildings, villas, housing complexes, and high-rise buildings, or pump water from a storage tank into the distribution network under pressure.

The advantage of an expansion vessel in a booster pump system is that when a small amount of water is used, the pump does not start immediately – it first draws from the water stored in the vessel; only when that water is exhausted does the pump activate. The benefit is that the pump does not start and stop with every use, resulting in a longer service life. In other words, the larger the expansion vessel, the more water it stores, the less the pump is stressed, and the longer it lasts.

If the booster pump draws water from a storage tank, it is advisable to use a float switch in case the tank runs dry. When the tank runs dry, it stops the unit from operating and prevents motor failure. When the tank refills, the booster pump automatically restarts.

Pressure Controller Specifications

The automatic booster pump device stops the pump automatically when the suction water supply runs out, preventing dry running. It starts the pump automatically when water use begins and stops it when water use ends. Minimum 2.7 bar pressure; compatible with single-phase pumps up to 1.5 HP.

HARDWARE

For easy and safe electrical installation, the unit is equipped with a socket and a 150 cm cable with plug.

A check valve is integrated into the unit. No additional check valve is required.

The pressure controller unit is equipped with a pressure gauge to allow the system pressure to be read and the pump operating settings to be adjusted.

Plumbing Materials

If your booster pump draws water from the same level or from a higher elevation, a check valve must be used on the suction line. A check valve must also always be used on the discharge line.
