What Is a Liquid Level Float Switch?

Liquid level float switches are electrical control devices used in tanks, large wells, or water accumulations of a specific volume and depth. They provide an electrical contact in response to rising or falling water levels, thereby controlling connected devices such as pumps and booster pumps. Electric float switches keep the water at a defined level or bring other devices in and out of service according to the water level.

Operating Principle of Liquid Level Float Switches

Because the float of the float switch is lighter than water, it rises to the water surface when submerged. When the water level drops, the float descends with the water. During this movement, a stainless steel ball approximately 25 mm in diameter inside the float travels about 2 cm forward or backward along its own channel within the float, in accordance with the upward or downward movement of the float. A micro switch fixed at the end of the channel through which the ball travels linearly inside the float opens and closes by the impact of the forward-and-backward moving steel ball. This produces an electrical switching action.

What Is the Advantage of a Rubber Cable?

The advantage of float switches with rubber cable is that the cable does not harden over time or due to temperature changes in air and water, and no cracking or breakage occurs as a result of hardening. The cable continues to operate for many years without losing its elasticity.

Liquid level float switches are used for liquid level control in stationary liquid tanks in residential and industrial facilities (tanks, artesian wells, sewage pits, and dirty water). Our liquid level switch has resistance to mineral and acidic water up to 10% concentration. The outer housing of our liquid level switches is made from anti-shock polypropylene and is resistant to high ambient temperatures.

Liquid level float switches can be used bidirectionally — they can be set to operate when in the lower position and stop when in the upper position, or vice versa.
