WHAT IS A CONTACTOR?

A contactor is a circuit-opening and circuit-closing switching device.

A contactor is an electronic switching device that opens closed contacts or closes open contacts using the electromagnetic force generated by its coil, and returns the contacts to their previous position by spring force.

Contactors are used to switch power circuits. Although their operating principle is similar to relays, contactors are manufactured for higher currents. They do not provide overcurrent or leakage current protection like circuit breakers, thermal relays or residual current devices. They simply open and close the circuit.
