Product description

What Is an Axial Fan?

An axial fan is a type of fan that causes air to flow in an axial direction, parallel to the shaft on which the blades rotate. The flow is axial at both inlet and outlet. The blades rotating around an axis draw air parallel to that axis and push it outward in the same direction. The fan is designed to generate force by creating a pressure difference, causing flow through the fan. Axial fans produce airflow with a high flow rate, generating large volumes of airflow. However, the airflow they produce is at low pressure.

Applications

  • For small and medium-sized spaces:
  • Suitable for ventilating bathrooms, toilets, kitchens, pantries, laundry rooms, garages, workplaces, and similar spaces.
  • It is manufactured specifically for direct window-mount installation.

Features

  • Thanks to the aesthetic rear shutter, the best protection against dust, odors, moisture, cold, and similar external factors entering from outside when the extractor is not in use is ensured.
  • The extractor is designed to stop automatically when its cord-operated back cover is closed and to start automatically when it is opened.
  • The front cover, casing, and impeller, which are exposed to dust, can be wiped clean easily.
  • Noise level is reduced to a minimum thanks to the optimum motor and housing design.
  • Self-lubricating motor bearings provide quiet and long-lasting performance.
  • Can be easily connected to windows.
  • Has IPX4 protection against water splashing.

Usage Options

  • Can be manually adjusted using the cord-operated cover that serves as the on/off control.
  • With a time-delay electronic board, the fan can be set to continue running for the desired period after it is switched off and then stop automatically.
  • Has thermal overload protection against motor wear in hot environments.

Things to Consider When Selecting an Axial Fan

4 parameters should be considered when selecting a fan:
  • Required Air Flow Rate
  • Pressure Losses
  • Acceptable Noise Level
  • Electrical Power Connection Type
The air changes required for the space to be ventilated depend on the intended use of the space, the number of occupants and objects inside, and their activities. The table alongside provides the required air change rate coefficients for different environments.
Environment Air Change Coefficient
Classrooms 5-7
Libraries 4-5
Domestic kitchens 15-25
Bathrooms 5-7
Domestic restrooms 4-5
Public restrooms 8-15
Conference rooms 6-8
Offices 4-8
Changing rooms 6-8

The amount of air per person in living and working spaces depending on activity level can help determine the required air flow rate.

Normal Activity (Non-Smoking) 29 m³/h
Normal Activity (Smoking) 58 m³/h
Light Activity 45 m³/h
Heavy Activity 60 m³/h

Based on the information provided above, the required air flow rate is determined as follows.

    • Q [ m³/h ] = Air change rate coefficient (1 hour) × Space volume (m³)

Or

  • Q [ m³/h ] = Number of people × Air flow rate required per person
After determining the required air flow rate for the space, an appropriate duct design (taking noise and air velocity criteria into account) should be made and pressure losses calculated. The fan type (axial, radial, roof, smoke extraction, etc.) should be decided based on the operating environment, and the appropriate fan should be selected from the relevant fan curve according to the determined flow rate–static pressure pair. To briefly illustrate the above with an example: an office has 5 employees, a ceiling height of 2.6 meters, and a floor area of 50 m², giving a volume of 2.6 × 50 = 130 m³. The air change rate coefficient given for an office in the table is 4–8; let's take 5. 130 × 5 = 650 m³/h air requirement. If we assume normal activity in the office, 5 people × 29 m³ = 145 m³ for employees, giving a total of 650 + 145 = 795 m³/h air requirement.

Fan selection is also made based on this flow rate requirement.

After completing the flow rate calculations, the installation location of the fan should be determined. Where will the fan be mounted — ceiling, wall, chimney, or ventilation duct? Another consideration is the voltage of the electrical supply to the fan. Continuing with our office example: fans in offices are generally mounted on a wall or glass. If a domestic electricity supply is used, a single-phase fan should be preferred. If it is to be used in an industrial setting, a fan operating on three-phase (380 V) power should be used.
