What is a pulse jet valve?
Pulse jet valves are specialized solenoid valves used for cleaning bag and cartridge dust collection filters. The valve opens for a very short time, sending air from the compressed air tank as a sudden burst into the filter bags. This air pulse shakes the dust accumulated on the surface of the bags, dropping it into the collection hopper; the filter is thus cleaned while the facility continues to operate without being shut down.
Applications
- Dust collection filters in cement, plaster, and mining facilities
- Dust extraction systems in wood, furniture, and plastics workshops
- Foundry, sandblasting, and metalworking facilities
- Dust filters in food and flour mills
- Silo top filters
Selection criteria
The connection size of the valve must be large enough to deliver the air volume recommended by the filter manufacturer; large bags and long bag rows require a larger valve. The coil voltage must be selected to match the output voltage of the pulse control board or timer relay. The valve's operating pressure range must cover the pressure of the air tank. If an existing valve is being replaced, the connection type and size must be the same as the old valve.
Installation and maintenance
Pulse jet valves are generally mounted on the air tank (manifold) with their outlets connected to the blow pipes. Keeping the compressed air dry and clean extends diaphragm life; the tank water must be drained regularly. Valve diaphragms wear out over time; continuous air leakage or a weakened pulse indicates that the diaphragm needs to be replaced. The pulse duration and interval settings on the control board should be set according to the filter manufacturer's recommendations.
Frequently asked questions
How often does a pulse jet valve fire?
The pulse duration and interval are adjusted on the control board. Settings are determined based on the filter's dust load and differential pressure.
What should I do if the valve continuously leaks air?
The diaphragm is likely torn or the pilot section is contaminated. Replacing the diaphragm usually resolves the issue.
What coil voltage is required?
A coil matching the output voltage of your pulse control board should be selected.
Can a standard solenoid valve be used in place of a pulse jet valve?
No; pulse jet valves are specifically designed to open and close very rapidly and deliver high flow rates.
How is the valve size selected?
It is selected based on the number and size of filter bags and the manufacturer's recommendation.
Where can I find solenoid valves other than pulse jet types?
You can browse the solenoid valves category for all models.
