Product description

What Is an Axial Fan?

An axial fan is a type of fan that causes air to flow in an axial direction, parallel to the shaft on which the blades rotate. The flow is axial at both inlet and outlet. The blades rotating around an axis draw air parallel to that axis and push it outward in the same direction. The fan is designed to generate force by creating a pressure difference, causing flow through the fan. Axial fans produce airflow with a high flow rate, generating large volumes of airflow. However, the airflow they produce is at low pressure.

Where Are Dündar K Series Axial Fans Used?

  • Axial fans are widely used for ventilation in residential and commercial spaces.
  • These fans offer a practical solution for the ventilation needs of small areas and operate quietly.
  • Thanks to the rear shutter, when the fan is not in use the indoor space is isolated from the outside, preventing unwanted elements such as dust and cold air from entering.
  • Hot air exhaust in high-temperature environments, removal of odors and smoke in homes,
  • Stale air extraction in offices,
  • Environments containing dust and vapor,
  • In areas of homes with insufficient airflow,
  • In classrooms,
  • Used in environments where smoking occurs.

Dündar K Series Axial Fan Casing and Impeller Sections

  • Casing made from cold-rolled high-quality DKP sheet steel and aluminum impeller blades,
  • High corrosion resistance with environmentally friendly electrostatic epoxy powder coating
  • Impeller blades dynamically tested to ISO 1940 standard,
  • Low Noise Level

Dündar K Series Axial Fan Motor

  • High-quality production without manual intervention on high-technology CNC machines,
  • Aluminum-finned motor housing with high thermal conductivity,
  • Insulation class F with a wide operating range for windings from −40 °C to +70 °C, 230 V / 50 Hz single-phase fan motor,
  • Standards-compliant certified components,
  • IP 44 protection class,

Things to Consider When Selecting an Axial Fan

4 parameters should be considered when selecting a fan:
  • Required Air Flow Rate
  • Pressure Losses
  • Acceptable Noise Level
  • Electrical Power Connection Type
The air change rate required for the space to be ventilated depends on the intended use of the space, the number of people and items inside, and their activity levels. The table alongside shows the recommended air change coefficients for different types of spaces.
ENVIRONMENT AIR CHANGE RATE COEFFICIENT
Classrooms 5-7
Libraries 4-5
Domestic kitchens 15-25
Bathrooms 5-7
Domestic restrooms 4-5
Public restrooms 8-15
Conference rooms 6-8
Offices 4-8
Changing rooms 6-8

The amount of air per person in living and working spaces, depending on activity, can help determine the required air flow rate.

Normal Activity (Non-Smoking) 29 m3/h
Normal Activity (With Smoking) 58 m3/h
Light Activity 45 m3/h
Heavy Activity 60 m3/h

Based on the information provided above, the required air flow rate is determined as follows.

  • Q [ m3 / h ] = Air exchange coefficient (1 h) * Room volume (m3)

Or

  • Q [ m3/h ] = Number of persons × Air flow rate required per person
After determining the required air flow rate for the space, appropriate duct design (considering noise and air velocity criteria) must be carried out and pressure losses must be calculated. Depending on the environment in which the fan will operate, the fan type (axial, radial, roof, smoke exhaust, etc.) should be decided and the correct fan should be selected from the appropriate fan curve based on the established flow rate–static pressure pair. To briefly illustrate the above points and the table with an example: an office has 5 employees, a ceiling height of 2.6 m and a floor area of 50 m², giving a volume of 2.6 × 50 = 130 m3. The air change rate given for offices in the air change coefficient table is 4–8. Taking an average of 5: 130 × 5 = 650 m3/h air requirement. Assuming normal activity in the office, 5 people × 29 m3 = 145 m3 of air is needed for the occupants, giving a total requirement of 650 + 145 = 795 m3/h.

Fan selection is made according to this flow rate requirement.

After completing the flow rate calculations, the location where the fan will be installed must be determined. Where will the fan be mounted — on the ceiling, wall, flue, or ventilation duct? Another point to consider is the voltage of the electrical supply to the fan. Since we are using an office as our example, let's continue with that. Fans in offices are generally mounted on a wall or window. If standard domestic power is to be used, a single-phase fan should be preferred. If the installation is in an industrial setting, a fan operating on three-phase (380 V) power should be used.
