Features of single-impeller centrifugal pumps

Single-impeller centrifugal pumps have a single impeller. This design allows the pump to deliver large volumes of water at a medium pressure level. Typical applications include garden and greenhouse irrigation, inter-tank water transfer, pool filling, supplying water from irrigation channels to fields, and cooling water circulation. With few moving parts, maintenance is also straightforward.

What to look for when selecting a model

If higher pressure is required, it is recommended to look at twin-impeller centrifugal pumps; if very high flow is required, look at volute pumps.

Installation notes

Place the pump close to the water source on a stable, dry surface. Use a strainer-equipped foot valve on the suction line and select a suction pipe of the same or larger diameter than the pump inlet. Fill the casing through the priming plug before the first start-up. Fitting a valve on the discharge line allows you to adjust the pump's operating point and isolate the line during maintenance.

Frequently asked questions

Can a single-impeller pump be used as a booster pump?

It can be used together with a pressure switch and tank or with a pressure controller. However, multistage pumps are more suitable for multi-story buildings.

What could cause the pump to make noise?

Air in the suction line, cavitation, bearing wear, or loose mounting can cause noise. Check the suction line and mounting bolts.

Can these pumps handle hot water?

The maximum permitted water temperature varies by model; for hot water applications, please review the hot water pumps.

Where are flanged norm pumps used?

They are used in industrial and large irrigation facilities, in high-flow applications permanently connected to fixed pipework.

How is the pump's operating point adjusted?

Flow can be restricted with a valve fitted on the discharge line. Running the pump continuously at the extreme ends of its curve reduces efficiency and increases wear.
