Features of vertical non-bursting tanks
Vertical non-bursting expansion vessels combine a fixed-membrane internal structure with an upright casing. Small-capacity legless models can be connected directly to the pipework or wall-mounted; larger-capacity legged models are floor-mounted in technical spaces such as boiler rooms and pump rooms. The upright casing saves floor space in rooms with limited area and leaves more room around the tank for maintenance.
Which capacity for which application?
- 2–8 liters: For expansion volume in combi boilers, solar domestic hot water circuits, and small pressure pumps.
- 20–50 liters: For booster pump systems in detached houses and small buildings, and for medium-sized heating systems.
- 100–200 liters: For booster pump systems in multi-unit buildings and large boiler rooms.
These ranges are approximate guidelines; the exact capacity must be calculated based on pump capacity and system water volume.
Installation tips
Place legged tanks on a level surface and make the connection with a flexible fitting to avoid putting stress on the pipes. Installing a ball valve between the tank and the pipework makes future removal easier. In heating systems, connect the tank as close as possible to the boiler's return line; in booster pump systems, connect it close to the pump's discharge line. Before initial startup, remember to adjust the tank's pre-charge pressure to match the system values.
Frequently asked questions
How are legless models installed?
Small-capacity legless tanks are typically screwed directly into the pipework via their connection port or wall-mounted with a suitable bracket.
What does a 10 bar rating mean?
It indicates the maximum working pressure the tank can safely withstand. The pressure in your system must remain below this value.
Where can I find horizontal models?
For horizontal options suitable for packaged systems, see the horizontal non-bursting expansion vessels category.
Does the pre-charge pressure come factory set?
Tanks are generally delivered with a preset pre-charge pressure. You should check this value before installation and adjust it to suit your system if necessary.
Can I move a large-capacity tank by myself?
Tanks of 100 liters and above are bulky and heavy even when empty. Carrying them with two people during installation and checking the connection orientation before placing the tank makes the job easier.
