What is an aluminum-bodied radial fan?
Aluminum-bodied radial fans are fans with a scroll-shaped casing made from cast aluminum that draw air in from the center and discharge it outward under pressure. The low weight and corrosion resistance of aluminum make these fans particularly preferred in heat- and moisture-generating environments such as boilers, stoves, furnaces, and burners. Their ability to generate high pressure makes them effective at forcing air through dense fuel beds and narrow ducts.
Applications
- Combustion air supply in solid-fuel central heating boilers
- Air blowing in pellet and wood-burning stoves
- Drying furnaces and industrial heaters
- High-pressure air requirements in laboratory and workshop equipment
The models in this category include radial boiler fan and high-pressure scroll fan options.
Selection criteria
When selecting a fan, flow rate and pressure values should be determined according to the equipment manufacturer's recommendations. For a replacement fan, the flange dimensions, outlet direction and size, motor voltage, and direction of rotation must match the original. High-pressure models are preferred when the resistance of the fuel bed or duct is high. If the ambient temperature is elevated, ensure that the motor is rated for that temperature.
Installation and maintenance
The fan should be mounted on a vibration-free surface and the inlet must not be obstructed. Soot and dust accumulating on the blades can upset the fan's balance and cause vibration; cleaning before each season is recommended. Electrical connections should be made via a thermostat or control panel using appropriately sized cable.
Frequently asked questions
Aluminum or sheet metal casing?
An aluminum casing is lighter and more corrosion-resistant. Sheet metal-bodied models are an economical alternative.
When is a high-pressure fan needed?
A high-pressure model is required when air must pass through a dense fuel bed or narrow ducts.
Can the fan's outlet direction be changed?
On some models the outlet direction can be changed by rotating the casing. Check the product description for details.
Can the fan be used in a stove?
Models with the appropriate flow rate and dimensions can be used in stove applications.
What should I do if the motor is overheating?
Check whether the inlet is blocked and check the ambient temperature. If necessary, ventilate the installation area of the fan.
Where can I find other boiler fans?
See the heating boiler fans category for all models.
Is the aluminum casing heat-resistant?
Aluminum conducts and dissipates heat well; nevertheless, the installation area should be ventilated to prevent the motor section from overheating.
