What does a boiler fan do?
Boiler fans are radial (snail) fans that supply the combustion air required by solid-fuel central heating boilers and stoves. Delivering combustion air in a controlled manner allows the fuel to burn more efficiently and helps the boiler reach the desired temperature more quickly. Boiler fans are also used in furnaces, drying systems, and other industrial equipment requiring combustion air.
Category contents
- Aluminum-casing radial fans: Models with lightweight, corrosion-resistant casings.
- Metal (sheet steel) casing radial fans: Durable and economical boiler fans.
- Single-phase and three-phase models: Selection can be made to match the boiler's electrical supply.
The m³/h values in product names indicate the fan's air flow rate, and the RPM value indicates the motor speed.
Selection and replacement
When selecting a boiler fan, the flow rate and pressure values recommended by the boiler manufacturer should be used as the basis. If an existing fan is being replaced, the flange dimensions, mounting holes, fan outlet size, direction of rotation, and motor voltage must match those of the old fan. An oversized fan can cause the fuel to burn quickly and uncontrollably, while an undersized fan will result in inefficient boiler operation. For fans that operate together with a boiler thermostat, the thermostat's contact rating must be compatible with the fan motor.
Maintenance
Dust, ash, and soot accumulate over time in the inlet and blades of boiler fans, reducing flow rate and straining the motor. It is recommended to clean the fan and check bearing noise before each heating season. The ventilation at the installation point should be maintained so that the fan motor is not affected by the heat from the boiler casing.
Frequently asked questions
Does a boiler fan run continuously?
It is generally started and stopped as needed by the boiler thermostat or control panel.
Why does the direction of rotation matter?
A radial fan rotating in the wrong direction cannot build adequate pressure. The direction of rotation is indicated by an arrow on the casing.
What is the advantage of an aluminum casing?
It is lightweight and resistant to corrosion. It also behaves consistently under heat-induced expansion.
What should I do if the fan is noisy?
There may be dirt on the blades or worn bearings. Clean it first; if the noise persists, the motor should be inspected.
Can a three-phase fan be used with a single-phase boiler?
No; the fan's motor voltage must be compatible with the boiler's electrical supply.
