What Is a Booster Pump?

Booster pumps are automatic pumps used to pressurize water where mains pressure is insufficient. They can be used on their own or, in some plumbing systems, together with a water storage tank.

They pressurize mains water in houses, apartments, buildings, villas, residential complexes, and high-rise buildings, or pump water taken from a storage tank into the distribution network under pressure.

If the booster pump draws water from a storage tank, it is advisable to use a float switch to protect against the tank running dry. If the water in the tank runs out, it will stop the product from operating and prevent motor damage. Once the tank refills, the booster pump will restart automatically.

If your booster pump draws water from the same level or from a higher elevation, a check valve must be used on the suction line. A check valve must also always be used on the discharge line.
