Product description

What Is Litmus Paper?

Litmus paper is used to measure the acid-base values of liquids.

How Is Litmus Paper Used?

Litmus is a chemical substance used to determine whether a solution is acidic or alkaline. Dye-impregnated paper strips are dipped into the liquid. If the liquid is acidic, the paper turns red; if alkaline, it turns blue. You can take accurate measurements from pH 1 to pH 14 using the color scale on the comparison chart.

Why Should Litmus Paper Be Used in Radiator Flushing?

As you know, it is not possible to clean a radiator system without using a radiator flushing chemical. Plumbing cleaning chemicals contain an inhibitor active ingredient. That is, they create a protective effect on plastic and metal components for 4–6 hours, preventing damage to the plumbing and fittings. They can also be neutralized by rinsing. Using litmus paper is recommended to check whether the rinsing process has been sufficient.

How Is Litmus Paper Used in Radiator Flushing?

  • When you begin the chemical washing process, dip the litmus paper into the water in the tank. You will get a reading of 1–3.
  • When you start the rinsing process, take a measurement again. The litmus paper color will likely be between 3 and 4.
  • Continue rinsing until the litmus paper color reaches a level of 6–7.
  • If you have rinsed extensively but the litmus paper still reads between 1 and 5 and does not exceed 6, that chemical is not of sufficient quality. It will damage the plumbing. Replace your chemical immediately.
