What Is a Circulation Fan?

Fans used to provide air circulation in enclosed spaces are called circulation fans. These fans are designed to move the maximum amount of air with minimal noise and energy consumption. Air circulation fans also cool warm environments and offer a low-cost solution in greenhouses, factory production areas, barns, and similar locations.

Air circulation fans provide uniform temperature in greenhouses, livestock barns, poultry houses, or commercial warehouses. Designed for high airflow and high efficiency, these versatile and durable fans are an ideal cooling solution for industrial or commercial facilities.

Designed for high airflow and high efficiency, these versatile and durable circulation fans are an ideal cooling solution for industrial or commercial facilities. They are next-generation, highly energy-efficient, robust, and reliable air-blowing fans suitable for a wide range of professional applications in indoor climate management.

Circulation Fan Casing and Impeller

  • Casing and fan blades made of cold-drawn, high-quality DKP sheet steel,

Air Circulation Fan Application Areas

  • In areas requiring air circulation,
  • Greenhouses,
  • General and industrial buildings,
  • Warehouses, stockrooms, and storage facilities,
  • Garages and publicly accessible buildings, agricultural buildings,
  • Large workshops,
  • Paint shops,
  • Factories,
  • Environments with dust and vapor,
  • Poultry farms,
  • Barns,
  • Used for cooling industrial marinas.

Points to Consider When Selecting a Fan

Four parameters should be considered when selecting an air circulation fan:
  • Required Air Flow Rate
  • Pressure Losses
  • Acceptable Noise Level
  • Electrical Power Connection Type
The air changes required for the space to be ventilated depend on the intended use of the space, the number of occupants and objects inside, and their activities. The table alongside provides the required air change rate coefficients for different environments.

Environment Air Change Rate
Auditoriums 6-8
Paint Ovens 25-50
Vault Rooms 3-6
Cinemas and Theaters 5-8
Commercial Kitchens 15-30
Foundries 8-15
Gymnasiums 4-6
Laundries 10-20
Indoor Swimming Pools 3-4
Restaurants 8-12
Conference Rooms 6-8
Waiting Rooms Copy Rooms

Machine Rooms 10-40
Shops 4-8
Dry Cleaning 5-15
General Manufacturing Areas 4-8
Hospitals 8-12
Laboratories 8-15
Normal Activity (non-smoking) 29 m³/h
Normal Activity (smoking) 58 m³/h
Light Activity 45 m³/h
Heavy Activity (industrial work areas) 60 m³/h

The amount of air per person in living and working spaces, depending on activity, can help determine the required air flow rate.

Normal Activity (Non-Smoking) 29 m³/h
Normal Activity (Smoking) 58 m³/h
Light Activity 45 m³/h
Heavy Activity 60 m³/h

Based on the information provided above, the required air flow rate is determined as follows.

    • Q [ m³/h ] = Air change rate coefficient (1 hour) × Space volume (m³)

Or

  • Q [ m³/h ] = Number of people × Air flow rate required per person
After determining the required air flow rate for the space, an appropriate duct design should be made (taking noise and air velocity criteria into account) and pressure losses should be calculated. Depending on the environment in which the air circulation fan will operate, the fan type (axial, radial, roof-mounted, smoke extraction, etc.) should be decided upon, and the appropriate fan should be selected from the fan curve based on the determined flow rate–static pressure pair. To briefly illustrate the above points and the table with an example: An office has 5 employees, a ceiling height of 2.6 m, and a floor area of 50 m²; it therefore has a volume of 2.6 × 50 = 130 m³. The air change rate coefficient given for offices in the table is 4–8; let's take it as 5. 130 × 5 = 650 m³/h of air is needed. Assuming normal activity in the office, 5 persons × 29 m³ = 145 m³ of air is needed for the occupants, giving a total of 650 + 145 = 795 m³/h of air required.

Select Your Air Circulation Fan Based on Your Flow Rate Requirement

After completing the flow rate calculations, the location where the air circulation fan will be installed should be determined. Where will the fan be mounted? On the ceiling, wall, chimney, or ventilation duct? Another factor to consider is the voltage of the electricity supply to the fan. Since we are using an office as our example, let's continue from there. Fans are generally mounted on walls or windows in offices. If household electricity is to be used, a single-phase fan should be preferred. If used in an industrial setting, a fan operating on three-phase (380-volt) electricity should be used.
