Why choose a stainless steel drainage pump?
Drainage pumps with stainless steel casings are more resistant to corrosion than their plastic and cast iron counterparts. They offer a long-lasting solution in areas requiring hygiene, in water with high lime content or mild chemical content, in hot water drainage, and in coastal applications. They are also more impact-resistant than plastic casings, which is why they are frequently used in demanding environments such as construction sites.
Material quality
Product descriptions typically state the stainless steel grade as AISI 304 or AISI 316. AISI 304 is the standard grade widely used for clean and mildly dirty water. For more corrosive environments such as seawater, salt water, or chlorinated water, AISI 316 grade, which contains molybdenum, is more durable. Pay attention not only to the casing material but also to the material of other parts in contact with water, such as the impeller and shaft.
Applications
- Basement, boiler room, and elevator pit drainage
- Pool and ornamental pond emptying
- Wastewater drainage in food, beverage, and washing facilities
- Saltwater drainage in boat maintenance areas and waterfront facilities
Stainless steel models designed for clean water differ from those with wide passages for dirty water; compare the solid particle size in your water against the product specifications.
Frequently asked questions
Can a stainless steel pump be used in seawater?
Models specified by the manufacturer as suitable for seawater and using AISI 316 grade material should be preferred. Rinsing the pump with fresh water after use extends its service life.
Is a stainless steel pump heavy?
It is slightly heavier than plastic casing models of the same power, but it is still portable. If the weight is given on the product page, plan your handling and suspension arrangement accordingly.
Can it be used for hot water drainage?
The maximum allowable fluid temperature varies by model. If hot water is to be pumped, check this value on the product page.
How is a stainless steel pump maintained?
After use, run the pump briefly in clean water to flush out internal sediment. Check the cable for crushing and cuts; if you will not be using the pump for an extended period, store it in a dry place.
Should I choose a float switch model?
In pits where the water level rises on its own, a float switch model starts the pump automatically. For one-time draining carried out while you are present, a model without a float switch is also sufficient.
