What does a conditioner do?

Compressed air from a compressor contains water, oil vapor, rust, and dust particles. These contaminants wear the seals of valves and cylinders, cause spools to seize, and shorten the system's service life. A conditioner (FRL unit) is an air preparation unit that filters compressed air, regulates it to the desired pressure, and lubricates it when required. Installed at the inlet of the pneumatic system, it ensures all components receive clean air at a stable pressure.

Conditioner components

In dual conditioners, the filter and regulator are combined in a single body, with a lubricator added alongside. The category includes models with 1/4 and 1/2 inch connections in mini and standard sizes.

Selection criteria

The connection size and flow rate of the conditioner must be large enough to meet the total air consumption of the system; an undersized conditioner causes pressure drop. The regulator's adjustment range must cover the system's operating pressure. Filter fineness is selected according to the requirements of the components used. Many pneumatic components today come pre-lubricated from the factory and do not require additional lubrication; however, once lubrication has been started in a system, it is recommended to continue it.

Installation and maintenance

The conditioner should be mounted close to the point of use, in an upright position, and in accordance with the flow direction arrow. Water accumulated in the filter bowl should be drained regularly, and the filter element should be cleaned or replaced when dirty. The lubricator bowl should be filled with the pneumatic oil recommended by the manufacturer, and the drop rate should not be set higher than necessary.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a dual and a triple conditioner?

In a triple unit, the filter, regulator, and lubricator are in separate bodies. In a dual unit, the filter and regulator are combined in a single body.

Is a lubricator mandatory?

It is required if there are components that need lubrication. It is generally not needed for components that come pre-lubricated from the factory.

How often should the water in the filter be drained?

It depends on the air humidity level. It should be drained when the water level in the bowl rises.

How is the regulator pressure set?

The adjustment knob is pulled and turned while monitoring the pressure on the pressure gauge, then locked at the desired value.

Which size should I choose?

It should be selected according to the system's air consumption and line diameter.

Can it be used with diaphragm pumps?

Yes; it is recommended for use at the air inlet of air-operated diaphragm pumps.
