How does an infrared heater heat?
Infrared heaters warm people and objects directly in front of them through radiation rather than heating the air. As a result, heat is felt shortly after switching on, and they are effective even in spaces with constant air changes or semi-open environments. They are preferred for supplementary or zone heating in homes, offices, shops, balconies, café terraces, and workshops.
What to look for when choosing a heater?
- Power (W): Selected according to the size and insulation of the area to be heated; models in this category range from 1,600 to 2,500 W.
- Power settings: Multiple power levels allow consumption to be adjusted to suit the need.
- Remote control: Models with a remote control offer added convenience.
- Application: Models specified as suitable for outdoor use are designed to withstand moisture and wind.
- Mounting type: Floor-standing, wall-mounted, and ceiling-mounted options are selected according to the space.
Electricity consumption
An electric heater's consumption is directly proportional to its power and operating time. For example, a 2,000 W heater running at full power for one hour consumes approximately 2 kWh of electricity. For this reason, electric heaters are generally suitable for rooms where the main heating system is insufficient, during shoulder seasons, and for short-term use. Stepped operation and keeping doors and windows closed reduce consumption.
Safe use
Keep the heater away from curtains, furniture, bedding, and flammable materials. Use a direct wall socket rather than an extension cord or multi-socket adapter; high-power devices can cause undersized cables to overheat. Check the product description for safety features such as tip-over and overheating protection. In damp areas such as bathrooms, use only devices explicitly specified for such use. Do not leave the heater unattended in environments where children or pets are present.
Frequently asked questions
Does an infrared heater dry out the room air?
Because it does not directly heat the air, it may cause less of a dry feeling compared to air-heating devices; this sensation varies from person to person.
Can an outdoor heater be used indoors?
Electric models may be used indoors under the conditions permitted by the manufacturer; check the product manual.
How large an area can a heater warm?
The area heated depends on the power rating, insulation, and whether the space is open or enclosed.
Can I use an extension cord?
It is not recommended; if unavoidable, use a single-piece, earthed cable with a cross-section rated for the device's power.
Where are other heating products?
