What is PPRC plumbing?
PPRC (polypropylene random copolymer) pipes are plastic pipes widely used in hot and cold water plumbing in residential and commercial buildings. They do not corrode, have a low tendency to scale, and when joined by heat fusion (polyfusion) the pipe and fittings become a single piece. This category includes unions, valves, and threaded transition pieces used in PPRC plumbing systems.
Category contents
- PPRC male-threaded swivel unions: Connect a PPRC line to threaded components such as pumps, meters, or fixtures in a way that can be disassembled.
- PPRC ball valves: Valves welded into the line to shut off flow.
Expressions such as "32 x 1 inch" in product names indicate the PPRC pipe outside diameter (mm) and the threaded connection size.
How is installation carried out?
PPRC pipes and fittings are joined using a dedicated welding machine and the appropriate diameter dies. The pipe and fitting are heated simultaneously, then pushed together without axial movement and held steady until cool. Heating time varies with pipe diameter; follow the times given in the welding machine's guide. For threaded transition pieces, wrap PTFE tape around the metal threaded section inside the plastic body before connecting; avoid over-tightening the plastic body.
Selection recommendations
The fitting diameter must match the outside diameter of the PPRC pipe being used. On hot water lines, verify that the part's temperature and pressure ratings are appropriate. Swivel unions on pump and booster pump connections make future disassembly easier. In vibrating connections, connect the PPRC line to the pump via a flex hose rather than directly, to protect the installation.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between PPRC and PE pipe?
PPRC pipes are joined by welding and are used for indoor hot and cold water plumbing; PE pipes are typically joined with compression coupling fittings and are common in irrigation and outdoor lines.
Can a PPRC valve be repaired?
Welded valves are generally not disassembled for repair; in the event of a fault they are cut out and replaced with a new one.
What is a swivel union used for?
It allows the connection to be disassembled and reassembled without rotating the pipe.
Is a welding machine required?
Yes; a suitable welding machine and dies are needed to join PPRC pipes and fittings.
Is it resistant to hot water?
PPRC is a material used for hot water; limit values are stated in the product information.
