What is a vent?
A vent is a louvered or grilled air-passage fitting mounted on a wall, window pane, door or duct end to ventilate a space. It allows fresh air to enter or stale air to exit while limiting the ingress of rain, insects and foreign matter. As the visible face of a ventilation system, it is important both functionally and aesthetically.

Vents in natural gas rooms
In kitchens and boiler rooms that contain gas appliances, vents are used to supply the combustion air required. The size, location and number of these vents are determined by the technical regulations of the gas distribution company. Blocking the vents can cause the appliance to operate with insufficient air and lead to the formation of dangerous gases; therefore, natural gas vents must never be closed.
Selection and installation
The vent diameter must match the diameter of the duct or opening to which it will be connected. For vents installed on exterior walls, rain protection and insect mesh should be considered. Adding a back-draught damper to the outdoor end of a duct fan prevents air and odors from entering from outside when the fan is not running. Plastic vents do not rust in damp environments; aluminum vents offer greater durability and a more attractive appearance.
Frequently asked questions
Can a natural gas vent be closed?
No. Vents must be kept open for gas appliances to operate safely.
What does an anemostat do?
It distributes air from the duct evenly into the room and helps regulate the airflow volume.
Why is a back-draught damper necessary?
It prevents air and odors from flowing back in from outside or from other rooms when the fan is not running.
How is a window vent installed?
A hole of the appropriate diameter is cut in the window pane and the vent is fitted. Glass work must be carried out by a qualified glazier.
Can the vent color be chosen?
Some models are available in different color options. Check the product information.
Which fan is it used with?
It can be used with duct fans and bathroom exhaust fans.
