What is a flanged circulation pump?
Flanged circulation pumps connect to large-diameter pipelines via flanges and circulate water at high flow rates in central heating and cooling systems. Primary applications include apartment and residential complex boiler rooms, schools, hospitals, hotels and office buildings, fan-coil and air handling unit circuits, and industrial process circuits. Expressions such as "for 100–200,000 boilers" in product names indicate the applicable boiler capacity range.
Key features
- Variable frequency drive (VFD) operation: As thermostatic valves in the circuit close down, the pump reduces its speed, delivering significant energy savings.
- Low-noise operation: Wet-rotor models operate quietly thanks to the motor being cooled by the water.
- Wide capacity range: Available in DN32, DN40, DN50 and larger flange sizes to suit buildings of different sizes.
- Single-phase and three-phase options: Selection can be made according to the boiler room's electrical infrastructure.
The category includes models from brands such as Wilo, DAB, Master, Grundfos, Welko and Taifu.
Selection and design
In central systems, pump selection is determined by a calculation based on the heat load, flow and return temperature differential, and system pressure losses. When replacing an existing pump, the flange size, face-to-face installation length and electrical supply must match. If redundancy is required in the boiler room, two pumps can be connected in parallel so that one takes over if the other fails. Installing a valve on each side of the pump and a check valve on the discharge side ensures safe maintenance and operation.
Installation and maintenance
The pump shaft must be installed horizontally, new flange gaskets must be used, and bolts must be tightened in a cross pattern. After the system is filled, air must be properly bled. Pumps that have been idle throughout the off-season should be verified with a brief test run at the start of the new season.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a flanged pump and a union-connected pump?
Flanged pumps are for large-diameter lines and high flow rates; union-connected pumps are used in smaller residential-scale systems.
How do I find an equivalent replacement for my existing flanged pump?
If you provide the model, flange size, face-to-face length and power details from the old pump's label, we can identify an equivalent model together.
How much energy can a VFD pump save?
Savings depend on how long the system operates at partial load throughout the year; the difference is noticeably greater in systems with thermostatic valves.
Can it be used in cooling circuits?
Models specified as suitable for cold water and condensation conditions can be used in chiller and fan-coil circuits.
Can I request a quote?
Yes; submit your project values or existing pump details and request a quote from the product page.
