What is a side-channel blower?
Side-channel blowers (regenerative blowers) work by repeatedly accelerating air along the ring-shaped channel in the casing using an impeller with many blades around its circumference. This design provides a clean and continuous airflow without oil. Blowers can be used for both blowing (pressure) and suction (vacuum) purposes. Their low maintenance requirements and quiet operation are important advantages.
Applications
- Aeration tanks in wastewater treatment plants
- Oxygenation in fish farms, ponds, and aquarium systems
- Pneumatic material conveying and air knives
- Vacuum holding, lifting, and CNC tables
- Packaging machines and drying systems
Single-stage or double-stage?
Single-stage blowers deliver higher flow rates at lower pressure; they are suitable for supplying air over large areas with low resistance. In double-stage blowers, air passes through two channels in series, achieving higher pressure or vacuum; they are preferred for deep aeration tanks and long pipelines. The kW value in the product name indicates the motor power, and the m³/h value indicates the maximum flow rate.
Selection and installation
The appropriate model is selected by determining the required air volume and the system back-pressure (for example, the water depth at which diffusers are located). It is recommended to fit a filter on the blower inlet and a silencer and safety valve on the outlet; the safety valve protects the blower by venting air when pressure exceeds limits. The blower should be installed in a well-ventilated location protected from external factors. A rise in casing temperature during operation is normal; however, excessive heating may indicate that pressure is exceeding the limits.
Frequently asked questions
Can a blower run continuously?
Blowers are designed for extended operation. The operating pressure must remain within the specified limits.
How does water depth affect blower selection?
As the depth at which diffusers are located increases, so does the pressure the blower must overcome.
Does a blower require oil?
Side-channel blowers operate oil-free; only bearing maintenance is required.
Are single-phase blowers available?
Yes; models operating on 220 V are available in the category.
Why is the blower overheating?
Excessive back-pressure or a clogged inlet filter causes overheating.
Can it be used for vacuum as well?
Yes; it can also be used in vacuum applications by utilizing the inlet side.
Can a hose be connected to the blower outlet?
A pressure-rated hose or pipe of a size matching the outlet can be connected. As the connection line gets longer, back-pressure increases, so choose a sufficient line diameter.
