Smart is a brand in the Supomp catalog, represented by its solar pump variable frequency drive (VFD). The VFD in the 3 HP power class stated in the product name converts the DC power from solar panels into variable-frequency AC power to drive AC submersible or surface pumps. It runs the pump during the day while sunlight is available — without a battery — pumping water into a storage tank or directly into an irrigation line, allowing existing pumps to be operated on solar energy. When selecting a VFD, compare the pump's power and phase type and the total voltage and power of the panels against the VFD's technical specifications.
